Integrated Land Management Plan (ILMP)Through this Integrated Land Management Plan, Defence Training Estates continues to manage military training across Dartmoor Training Area, caring for the moor, its community and with due regard for the objectives of the Dartmoor National Park Authority, Landowners, Statutory Bodies and other user groups. The Ministry of Defence seeks to provide a training estate of the right size and quality to achieve the operational skills required of our Servicemen and women. It recognises its responsibilities to manage and develop that estate in line with acknowledged best practice, and with sensitivity to the environment and society. An Environmental Management System is used to examine each site’s negative and positive impacts of military activities and to create a plan to further minimise the negative and maximise the positive. Further plans are then created to take forward specific topics. This Integrated Land Management Plan aims to define and reconcile the Ministry of Defence’s responsibilities for the management of military activities on the rural estate within the Dartmoor National Park. Dartmoor has been a military training area for over 200 years. Today, Dartmoor Training Area provides light Armed Forces with essential and challenging training. Most of the training estate is licensed for military use from private landowners, while Willsworthy is Ministry of Defence freehold. All of the land used lies within the Dartmoor National Park, much of which is designated as a Special Area of Conservation. Further site information is available here. The Ministry of Defence has regard for the National Park’s purposes and stakeholder’s aims and objectives and observes the law, Government directives and agreements with landowners, as directed by Defence Estates’ Strategy. Having considered stakeholder’s objectives, the Plan identifies strategic aims and the objectives required to achieve them. Existing management processes have been developed to maximise the training value and reduce the impact of military activities. Further management actions are proposed that will further improve the military’s care for the National Park and consideration for other users with whom we share Dartmoor’s special qualities.
