Training Methods

High standards of training are vital for an operation to be successful with the least loss of life. Well trained forces can also deter a potential enemy or give significant psychological advantage. The MOD is conscious of the duty it owes to the British Service Personnel and their families to provide excellent training to enable the soldier, sailor and airmen to win and survive.

Training is carefully organised to achieve objectives laid down by the chain of command. Some of the factors that are considered in co-ordinated training are:

  • The training objective, including the performance level, required.
  • The quantity of individuals and units to be trained.
  • Their present level of training.
  • Resources such as fuel and ammunition.
  • The time available.
  • The facilities, such as training areas, available.

Consideration of these factors results in progressive safe training that achieve the required operational effectiveness.
