Integrated Land Management Plan (ILMP)

Stakeholder Aims and Objectives

English Heritage

English Heritage (EH), created by Parliament in 1984, is charged with the protection of the historic environment and promoting public understanding and enjoyment of it. They are the Government‘s official adviser in England on all matters concerning heritage conservation.

EH have a Regional Research Framework For Archaeology in SW England.

Following recent archeological investigations carried out by EH on the Willsworthy area of Dartmoor stated:
"Our previous work…has demonstrated that areas used by the military have the potential to preserve prehistoric remains to an unusual degree”

Stakeholder Objectives

EH works in partnership with the central government departments, local authorities, voluntary bodies and the private sector to:

  • Conserve and enhance the historic environment
  • Broaden public access to the heritage
  • Increase people's understanding of the past
  • We meet those responsibilities by:
    • acting as a national and international champion for the heritage
    • giving grants for the conservation of historic buildings, monuments and landscapes
    • maintaining registers of England's most significant historic buildings, monuments and landscapes
    • advising on the preservation of the historic environment
    • encouraging broader public involvement with the heritage
    • promoting education and research
    • maintaining the National Monuments Record as the public archive of the heritage
    • monitoring the condition and improve the condition of Scheduled Monuments.
