Integrated Land Management Plan (ILMP)Stakeholder Aims and ObjectivesMinistry of Defence’s LandlordsOutside the MOD freehold land, the right to undertake military training across DTA or move across areas is through agreements with private landowners. The largest of these landholdings over which troops train and move are owned by the Duchy of Cornwall, the Maristow Estate and SWW. Within DTA, MOD makes assurances though formal agreements to the landowners to respect their land and their purposes, and have enjoyed a strong and long standing relationship with local landowners. The private landowners of Dartmoor in return play a vital role in supporting the UK’s defence training capability. Stakeholder ObjectivesIn managing the Dartmoor estate, the Duchy strives to achieve a balance between its commercial obligations and stewardship of the natural environment. His Royal Highness ensures that sustainable development, environmental and agricultural best practice, and working in partnership with tenants and communities, is at the heart of the Duchy’s management approach. The Duchy works with organisations and communities that share the use and enjoyment of Dartmoor including tenants, village communities, Government agencies and local authorities. The Duchy is a partner and keen supporter of the Dartmoor Biodiversity Action Plan and the Action for Wildlife Project, which aims to protect vulnerable species and habitats, such as encouraging the declining numbers of moorland wading birds (eg curlew and lapwing) to breed more successfully. The Maristow Estate and South West Water have a similar relationship with MOD and the Dartmoor community. For further information see: http://www.duchyofcornwall.org/aroundtheduchy_dartmoor.htm
