The local highway network around and within Dartmoor Training Area includes the A30 to the north, the A386 to the west and the A38 to the south. Most of the training area is inaccessible except on foot or by helicopter, although some vehicular tracks exist. The uneven moorland plateau is surrounded by areas of enclosed land. Tracks provide access to the moor rather than across it.
