Historic Environment
Dartmoor Training Area includes a significant archaeological landscape that contains numerous features ranging from the prehistoric, medieval and post medieval industrial periods. Notable among these remains are the Bronze Age settlements and land boundaries known as reaves, medieval field systems and extensive areas of tin working.
The wider landscape does not enjoy statutory heritage protection however certain areas of exceptional archaeological value have been selected as PALs (Premier Archaeological Landscapes). Individual sites are protected as Scheduled Ancient Monuments and are included on the National Monuments Record.
