Integrated Land Management Plan (ILMP)

Existing Management Processes

The Ministry of Defence aspires to be recognised as a responsible user, excellent landlord, good neighbour and as a positive asset to the local communities, promoting public access, safeguarding and, where possible, improving the landscape, nature conservation and cultural heritage value of the estate.

Management of Dartmoor Training Area has developed through extensive experience, adoption of suggestions from statutory bodies and non governmental organisations and external audit.

Responsibility for management lies with Defence Training Estates in partnership with its facility manager, Landmarc Support Services. Commandant Dartmoor Training Areas, as the head of establishment, has overall responsibility.

Their combined mission is to provide a challenging environment for the light Armed Forces to achieve their operational capability while continuing to care for the National Park, and being considerate of the other users of Dartmoor.

The concept of operations for managing the Ministry of Defence’s responsibilities on Dartmoor gives an overview of the management system. Detailed tasks and coordinating instructions describe the management processes in output terms and the inputs required to achieve them.
