Integrated Land Management Plan (ILMP)Concept of OperationsHeadquarters Defence Training Estate, South West provides direction on the facilities to be provided and allocates in accordance with Headquarters Land Command’s timings and priorities. All of the small Dartmoor Training Area team contribute to achieving Dartmoor Training Area’s mission, working together as a multi skilled workforce. All members of the team have a responsibility to achieve Dartmoor Training Area’s mission and tasks. In outline, Headquarters Dartmoor Training Area programmes, provides general advice to user recce parties and oversees use of the facilities. Supervisors and wardens brief allocated users immediately before activity, provide detailed advice on making best use of the facilities, make available the programmed facilities, assist with setting up and operation of the facilities, and oversee use of the facilities. For live firing the Clearers check that the range danger area is clear of people, move stock and provide daytime perimeter surveillance. They also assist with environmental protection and conservation works. The allocated user appoints an Exercise Director and Exercise Planning Officer, who delegate a Range or Exercise Conducting Officer run training activities. Commandant Dartmoor Training Area and his Deputy provide the command,
direction and supervision of training, assisted by two Training Area
Marshals. Landmarc Support Services’ two training area supervisors
with their wardens manage their respective areas; Okehampton and Willsworthy;
and Merrivale, Cramber and Ringmoor. During live firing, range controls
operate on Okehampton, Willsworthy and Holming Beam at Merrivale. The
Clearers receive their direction from the Training Area Supervisors through
the Head Clearer.
